Youth Representative Squads Names | |
21 September 2023 The North and South under-14 and under-17 squads have been selected for the annual representative matches which take place at An Aird, Fort William on Sunday 1 October 2023. A total twenty clubs are represented over both age groups with two Skye players selected in the North under-14 squad as there are places for John Archie Tuncay and Ian Graham. The under-14 sides contest the Fraser MacPhee Memorial Cup, donated by the MacPhee family in 2003. Fraser was outstanding shinty player and footballer for Fort William as well as at snowboarding. He died in March 2002, aged 14, as a result of a tragic accident at home. He is remembered by this Cup and in other ways such as the occasions on which his sportsmanship and appreciation of others overruled his competitiveness. “In second year at High School, he was seriously chuffed to be offered the captaincy of both the shinty and football teams. He did not find it easy but declined the opportunity to be football captain in favour of shinty as he didn’t think it fair to his coaches or teammates to try to do both. “When the time comes to write against his name, it will be remembered not who won or lost, but how he played the game.” Throw up is at noon and James Munro is the match referee.
