24 July 2014 Eight Skye Camanachd Ladies players attended the 2014 WCA National Development Camp at Strathallan School, Perth-shire over the weekend of 4 - 6 July 2014. Skye Camanachd Ladies Sarah Corrigall, Lorna MacRae, Caitlin MacLean, Ilana Paterson, Kirsty Dibble Fiona Lamond, Emma Gordon and Izzy Law were in attendance. The Skye contingent were part of a group of over fifty players from across the country who attended the popular annual event packed full of shinty, socialising and fun, organised by the Women’s Camanachd Association and sponsored by Marine Harvest. Scotland Ladies Head Coach Stuart Reid (Glenurquhart) and his assistants Scott Campbell (Newtonmore) and Eoghan Stewart (Lewis Camanachd) formed part of the coaching team. Skye’s Robbie Gordon was also there as was Charlie Neilson (Aberdour). Camanachd Association duo Ronald Ross (Kingussie) and Euan McMurdo (Inveraray) made up the remainder of the coaching team). The players were given the opportunity to learn and build on their shinty skills through drills, skills sessions and small sided games. The coaches kept a watchful eye over all the players with the annual awards up for grabs. Skye Camanachd Ladies Head Coach Sarah Corrigall was named Player of the Camp and she said, “This was my first year attending the women’s shinty camp as a player and I loved it! There is nothing I love doing more than playing shinty with friends and meeting new people, and to be able to do it all in one weekend, getting taught by some excellent coaches, who each have their own views and experiences of the game was of great benefit. Receiving the Player of the Camp award was a huge honour and I am so privileged to have been given it as there were so many talented players at the camp who could have easily been awarded it too.” Lyndsay Michie from Glengarry was named Most Endeavoured Player of the Camp whilst the Most Improved Player of the Camp award went to Kirsty MacArthur from Oban. |
