Skye Camanachd 7 Kingussie 1 | |
09 July 2023 The Skye Camanachd second team go second in Mowi North Division 1 after beating the Kingussie second team 7-1 in their noon throw up at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 8 July 2023. This contest was played in the sunshine and Shockie MacLennan’s brilliant flick and volley from the left opened the scoring on 8 minutes. It was MacLennan again on 14 minutes, turning home a Dan MacDonald knock-down following Archie Millar’s cross from the right to make it 2-0. Ian MacPherson was denied by a fine Hayden Taylor-Ramsay save above his head, to the keeper’s right. MacPherson took the resultant corner and when the ball deflected back to him, he drove home a great shot from a tight angle wide on the left to make it 3-0 on 20 minutes. Kingussie pulled a goal back on 32 minutes when good ball from debutant Toby Thain found MacLeod Dawson in a central position. Dawson still had plenty to do but made space and a smart turn and shot saw him send the ball low into the corner of the net, to keeper Calum Nicolson’s right, to claim his first goal at second team level. Dan MacDonald, who joined Skye from Col Glen after returning home earlier in the summer, went on to score four times with efforts on 35, 42, 69 and 84 minutes to make the final score 7-1. For his first, Archie Millar won possession on the Skye right and played in MacDonald just outside the penalty spot. His initial effort was blocked but he then found the net to the keeper’s left. With just 3 first minutes remaining, the excellent David MacInnes and Shockie MacLennan sent Skye on an attack. Dan MacDonald peeled away from his marker to gather a pass from Archie Millar before casually slipping the ball home to make it 4-1 at the break. Skye introduced Taylor Matheson at the break for his first appearance since an ankle break. He took over from Archie Millar. MacDonald completed his hat-trick when he ran out to the left to take a pass from substitute Ali Stewart, and he finished well. The final goal of the game saw Dan MacDonald take a pass from James Robertson and whistle the Kingussie defences had chances to clear, MacDonald bustled his way through on goal to force the ball by the keeper.
