Skye Camanachd 3 Caberfeidh 4 | |
06 August 2023 Skye Camanachd went down 4-3 to Caberfeidh in their Mowi Premiership fixture at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 5 August 2023. Skye defender James Morrison returned from suspension for this 2pm throw up, but Archie Millar travelled with the second team for their Sutherland Cup semi-final. Caberfeidh’s Ben MacDonald was due to return offshore the previous day but his trip was delayed whilst Scott Macphail, who has started in attack over the last few games, was on holiday. With boss Garry Reid in Glasgow as his son Josh Reid was part of the Ross County squad to play Celtic, assistant manager Brian MacDonald looked after the side. There was a downpour ahead of throw up and the game started in the rain. Skye made a bright start, but Cabers soon took control of the game and Kevin Bartlett put them ahead on 16 minutes, scoring at the back post after the Skye defence allowed Ben MacDonald’s hit-in from the left to come across the face of the goal. Craig Morrison doubled the visitors’ lead on 27 minutes, taking Jamie MacKintosh’s ball down the right before cutting inside and finishing low into the net on his left side, beating keeper Murphy Henderson by his left post. Skye introduced James Pringle from the bench and they pulled a goal back on 35 minutes when, following a corner on the right, Jordan Murchison chased the ball wide on the left and his outrageous strike from distance dipped into the far top corner of the net for a brilliant goal. Ross Gordon levelled from the penalty spot on 43 minutes after Jordan Murchison had been brought down inside the D after being played through on goal. Gordon expertly sent the penalty low to keeper Iain McCall’s right. Referee Willie MacDonald awarded a second penalty on 59 minutes, this time for Caberfeidh when Sam Macphee chopped down Crag Morrison and Kevin Bartlett drilled the spot-hit low to the goalie’s left to bag his second goal of the afternoon. Skye drew level once more on 83 minutes when James Pringle found William MacKinnon who ran across goal to the left before sending a spectacular strike high into the goal to make it 3-3. Both sides may have settled for a point but, just a couple of minutes later, when the ball broke to unmarked substitute Gavin Mclauchlan, he sent a great shot low into the corner of the net to win the game. William MacKinnon was best for Skye whilst Blair Morrison was outstanding at buckshee back for Caberfeidh.
