Lovat Shinty Player Takes Over Tanera Camans | |
18 February 2015 Lovat shinty player and Joinery Firm owner Alan MacPherson has taken over the manufacturing of famous shinty stick brand, Tanera Camans. Alan MacPherson, who runs the firm AWM Joinery, has purchased the business from Manchester-based TS Hattersley and Son and he will begin making camans from his Inverness depot early this spring. The Lovat player has already undertaken substantial research and prototype development of one-piece ash camans and his current sticks are used by some Marine Harvest Premiership and Scotland players. He will now compliment this by also making the existing design of Tanera Camans. MacPherson said, “I am grateful for the privilege of continuing the Tanera story and feel that this is the next step for me and it will complement my joinery business. I will make the existing design of Tanera sticks as well as further developing my own for players who are looking for a lighter, bespoke caman.” Camanachd Association Chief Operating Officer, Torquil MacLeod added, “I am very pleased that Alan has taken the initiative to help to secure the supply of sticks for our great game of shinty.” For orders contact Alan MacPherson at alan@awmjoinery.co.uk or on 07901 957045
Tanera Camans Tanera Camans was started by Billy MacLean in Fort William in the 1980’s; he named it after his house which could have had a connection with the island of the same name near Ullapool. Phillip Nolan and his son, Colin, then took over in the mid 1990’s, later selling to the lacrosse stick-maker TS Hattersley from Manchester in 2005. The business was put up for sale in October 2014, on the retirement of master craftsman, Thomas Beckett, after 50 years of service. Alan MacPherson’s acquisition now means the manufacturing of Tanera Camans returns to Scotland and the Highlands. |
