Camanachd Association Respond To Ballachulish Statement | |
25 September 2014 The Camanachd Association has responded to Ballachulish Shinty Club’s statement which notified the Association that they would not take part in the Marine Harvest National Division play-off against Skye Camanachd at Blairbeg on 27 September 2014. The play-off was to decide who goes forward to play Marine Harvest National League shinty next year with Ballachulish issuing a statement confirming that they would not take part in the match.
A Camanachd Association spokesperson said, “We note the statement issued by Ballachulish Shinty Club in relation to their first team play-off match against Skye Camanachd, scheduled for this Saturday (27 September 2014), and regret their withdrawal from this fixture. This will be a disappointment for the players and supporters of both teams, plus the wider shinty community as a whole. Although the Camanachd Association seeks to be accommodating to teams whenever possible, we also seek to minimise fixture disruption and give teams reasonable notice of any fixture changes (minimum seven days). Communication was received from Ballachulish on Wednesday 17 September 2014 requesting the fixture be rescheduled. A response was provided by the Association on Friday 19 September 2014 declining this request. Further communication was received from Ballachulish on the afternoon of Saturday 20 September 2014, again requesting that the fixture be rescheduled. This simply does not allow the Association sufficient time to consult with all the relevant parties, not just Skye and Ballachulish but also their remaining league opponents and the host venue, plus still provide the minimum seven day notice. Skye similarly have been without a scheduled fixture for a number of weeks and have two league fixtures outstanding. Skye have not requested that the fixture be rescheduled and were unable to agree to the Ballachulish request that the fixture be rescheduled.” Ends statement |
