Artemis Macaulay Cup - First Round
Newtonmore 4 Kilmallie 0
2013 runners-up Newtonmore are through to the Artemis Macaulay Cup quarter-finals after their 4-0 win over Kilmallie in their noon throw up. The tie was switched to the Eilan when the Canal Parks failed a pitch inspection. Glen MacKintosh returned to Paul John MacKintosh’s Newtonmore side. Kilmallie boss Duncan Kelly was without youngster Craig MacIsaac who suffered a knee injury in the mid-week derby between Kilmallie U17 and Fort William U17. Glen MacKintosh put Newtonmore ahead on 8 minutes whilst Fraser MacKintosh made it 2-0 just 3 minutes later. The same players scored late in the second half – Fraser MacKintosh on 71 minutes and Glen MacKintosh a couple of minutes from time – to round off a deserved 4-0 win. Kilmallie’s Martin Stewart suffered what was later to be confirmed as a broken thumb.

Artemis Macaulay Cup – Quarter Finals
Kingussie 1 Newtonmore 4
Newtonmore reached the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi-finals as they beat Kingussie 4-1 in their 3pm derby meeting at the Dell. Kingussie started well and Lee Bain spurned a great chance in the opening minutes when he was played in one-on-one with Newtonmore keeper Michael Ritchie. However the Kingussie forward didn’t catch the ball as he would have liked and Ritchie made the save. Newtonmore went ahead on 14 minutes when James Hutchison tried to cut out a high ball into the goal area but the ball came off the top of his stick and looped over keeper Craig Dawson into the net. A fairly even first half ended with Newtonmore 1-0 ahead. However Newtonmore were the better team in the second half. Paul MacArthur made it 2-0 on 54 minutes and Glen MacKintosh added a third on 72 minutes. Louis Munro pulled a goal back for Kingussie on 82 minutes but Glen MacKintosh’s second goal of the afternoon 3 minutes from time rounded of a well-earned 4-1 win.

Artemis Macaulay Cup – Semi Finals
Newtonmore 3 Lovat 1
Newtonmore booked their place in the Artemis Macaulay Cup Final with a 3-1 win over Lovat at Braeview Park. Newtonmore’s Danny MacRae showed no ill-effects from his appearance for the ‘More reserves the previous evening so he started in attack. Steven MacDonald continued at full back and Jamie Robinson was at full centre but the game came too early for both Norman Campbell and Fraser MacKintosh. Keeper Stuart MacDonald and Owen Ferguson returned for Lovat although the latter started on the bench. Lovat defender Drew Howie remained on the injury list. Evan Menzies struck on 11 minutes to give Newtonmore the lead and although they dominated the remainder of the first half, they were unable to add to their tally. The men from the Eilan sealed the lead with two goals in a four minute spell. Evan Menzies got his and his teams’ second on 72 minutes and Danny MacRae, who had a great tussle with Callum Cruden, made it 3-0 on 76 minutes. Greg Matheson pulled a goal back for Lovat 5 minutes from time but it is no more than a consolation effort as Newtonmore earned a deserved win. Deek Cameron was the match referee. Newtonmore will now meet Kyles Athletic in a repeat of last year’s final at Mossfield on Saturday 23 August 2014.
